Board Games Perfect for Halloween

All hallows eve is soon to be upon us and I thought of some games that would be perfect for setting mood. Their themes have a generally spooky nature to them and will be great fun to play in the lead up to or even on the evening of the spookiest day of the year. Of course they are playable all year round too.

Arkham Horror

First up is the most obvious horror themed game and that's Arkham horror. Arkham Horror (Third Edition) is a cooperative game where you take on the roles of investigators trying to rid the world of eldritch beings known as Ancient Ones. Based on the works of H.P. Lovecraft, players will have to gather clues, defeat terrifying monsters, find tools and allies if they are to stand any chance of defeating the creatures that dwell just beyond the veil of our reality.

Nothing quite says spooky or halloween like trying to stop some sort of horrific eldritch being.

Medium

Channel the spirits and attempt to read each others minds In the game Medium. Together in pairs, they mentally determine the Medium: A word that connects the words on their two cards, and then attempt to say the same word at the same time! It is fairly fun concept and can get hectic as you and the other person say different words and then have to find a medium for those without saying any of the previous words.

Paranormal Detectives

We stick with the ghostly/ medium kinda vibe as we discuss paranormal detecives. Paranormal Detectives is a deduction style party game. One player becomes a Ghost while other players work as Paranormal Detectives and need to discover how the victim (ghost) died. Using paranormal abilities they will communicate with the Ghost, asking open questions about the details of the crime. The Ghost answers in a variety of ghostly ways - by arranging a hangman’s knot, playing chosen tarot cards, creating a word puzzle on a talking board, drawing by holding the hand of a detective and many more!

Think of the likes of mysterium or cluedo but with more abstract ways of getting clues to help solve everything.

Carnival of Monsters

Carnival of Monsters is a card-drafting game in which players try to collect sets of Land Cards so they can capture and display strange and exotic Monsters, hire talented Staff to help run their enterprise, and pursue their own Secret Goals. Points are awarded for displaying Monsters, completing Goals, and earning Gold Crowns (Crowns) over four “Seasons” of play.

When it comes to card games carnival has quite a pedigree behind with Richard Garfield the creator of magic the gathering designing this game so you couldn't really be in safer hands here.

Tales From The Loop

For the last suggestion im going slightly different here in recommending a RPG book. I suggest this as this roleplaying game is in the vein of E.T. and Stranger Things, you'll play teenagers solving mysteries connected to the Loop, an area that hosts a mysterious expermental with a gravitron that is bending time and space.

You could really set the halloween mood by delving into this rpg with your family or friends as this could easily played via a video chat service of your choosing.

Thats it from me hope you enjoyed the recommendations have a good Halloween season.
