Perfect Lockdown Board Games

Well we are back to more strict measures once again and the country is on lockdown for a few weeks. I have been asked a number of times now to suggest some games that would be good to for the lockdown. This blog is an attempt to answer those questions in some small way. You can keep messaging me to ask of course and ill try tailor more to your tastes where i can but for now here is a 8.

1 Slide Quest

Its not just lockdown just for us its lockdown for the kids as well and slide quest has gone down a storm with them when I've suggested it in the past. Its a bit of a dexterity co-operative game so it'll have the kids and even the parents working together for a change. In the game The bad guys have taken over a beautiful kingdom, and it's in total chaos! You roll the knight through this turbulent adventure that is lined with twists and traps.

2 Azul

In the game Azul, players take turns drafting colored tiles from suppliers to their player board. Later in the round, players score points based on how they've placed their tiles to decorate the palace. Extra points are scored for specific patterns and completing sets; wasted supplies harm the player's score. Azul has been an unbelievable hit game and its no wonder really with its easy to understand gameplay and gorgeous looking tiles it really stands out. If you need to pass the time im not sure their is a better looking way to do so.

3 Carcassonne

The French walled city isnt just a place its also a wonderful game. I think on this list carcasonne is one of the ones that's best at all its player counts so this works really well for just 2 and upto the 5 players it can handle.

Carcassonne is a tile-placement game in which the players draw and place a tile with a piece landscape on it, city, a road, a cloister, grassland or some combination and it must be placed adjacent to tiles that have already been played, then you place one of your meeples on one of the areas on it When that area is complete, that meeple(pawns/player tokens) scores points for its owner.

Jaipur

A lot of my questions of game suggestions came from those who were for just 2 players. Now while a lot of my suggestions work well at 2 players, Jaipur is a 2 player only game. In my opinion Jaipur might well be the best 2 player board game there is (sorry to the likes of chess and GO).

Jaipur is a fast-paced card game, On your turn, you can either take or sell cards. If you take cards, you have to choose between taking all the camels, taking one card from the market, or swapping 2-5 cards between the market and your cards. Its all about timing and tactics when you sell. sell early and pip your opponent to a higher point token or wait and try sell a lot for wild point tokens.

Its such a tight game, so fun and quick. It now has this new printing that looks stunning.

Confident

You might ask yourself why recommend a party game for lockdown? we cant have people over right now. Ah well thats a good question but i can recommend confident easily because one its no hassle to play if its just you and family at home playing and two the big reason im recommending it is because it can very easily be played over video chat!

CONFIDENT is a highly entertaining family party game where you answer questions like "how many slices are there in a loaf of bread?". But, instead of giving exact answers, you guess with a RANGE!  but the smaller your range compared to everyone else, the more you score!

So plan your next zoom meeting around this game if you want and enjoy.

Deep Sea Adventure

Oink games are known for doing small games and deep sea adventure is no different. Its easily the smallest box in this list and that is why i recommend it. Yes its pretty light on rules and therefore easy to understand but its the fact it takes up the least amount of space of all these games is a real selling point for it. It will fit even on coffee tables if you dont have much space.

The game takes place over 3 rounds, and the player to gain the most points over the 3 rounds is the winner. In order to gain points, you must bring the most ruins chips back to the submarine. You can only return to the submarine once per round, and you cannot progress more after returning. You cannot return to the submarine without bringing any ruins chips.

7 Tag City

Roll and writes took off in the last year or so and its easy to see why, the ever changing nature of the dice allow so many possibilities and give you a fresh challenge each game. With tag city the dice determine shapes you can draw on your board and the aim is to fill it. Again this game is really well balanced at all its player counts and isnt extremely competitive against other players so there wont be fights.

In Tag City, players are graffiti taggers racing to tag sections of the city the fastest. Dice determine graffiti shapes — grab ones that let you tag whole blocks at a time! If you finish a district or stretch of the city first, make sure you brag about it — that prestige belongs to you! Once the battle is over, only the very best tagger will be remembered!

 8 Dobble

Think fast and act fast in this family friendly game that reminds me of snap in a way. Each card in original Dobble features eight different symbols, with the symbols varying in size from one card to the next. Any two cards have exactly one symbol in common. For the basic Dobble game, reveal one card, then another. Whoever spots the symbol in common on both cards claims the first card, then another card is revealed for players to search, and so on. Whoever has collected the most cards when the 55-card deck runs out wins!

Not only is this mode for dobble quick and fun there is actually more rules in the box for different ways to play it. That makes it incredible value for money even with its great pricing.

I hope this helps you a little bit and you find something worth getting.

Stay safe
